Default My XK8 won't start-multiple misfire codes

Hi Forum. Looking for some direction in an issue that has occurred. My XK8 was running fine. I parked it and went to start it five minutes later and it would not start. It seemed like it wanted to start especially if I depressed the pedal half-way down but would not. I checked the codes and came up with 7 codes listed below:

133-HO2S circuit slow response
171-lean A-bank combustion
300-random misfire
306-misfire cylinder 6
307-misfire cylinder 7
308-misfire cylinder 8
1111-system check completed
1316-emissions related to misfire

Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks!

Check for a strong squirt of fuel at the Schrader valve on the fuel injector rail after cranking. If it is just a dribble when you depress the valve pin, you probably have a bad fuel pump.

Hi again. I checked the Schrader valve and there was a lot of fuel pressure at the valve. Sprayed out with a strong stream. After sitting overnight I got it to start and it ran about 5 seconds or so before it started to miss and then stalled. I checked the fuel pump reset by the fuses and it was not tripped. Any other thoughts? Thank you

remove coil/plug covers check for water ingress.had this problem twice but the xkr has bonnet vents and is more prone

No water in any of the coils. Could a bad O2 sensor (DTC Code 133) prevent the car from running? Thanks

Another possible cause is moisture in the throttle body. Check that your ducts and hoses are tight. Have you had significant rainfall lately?

I'm not experienced in Jag motors by any stretch, but personally I'd look at the coils and check that it hasn't jumped valve time at the timing chains.

Hi All. No water in the throttle body. When you depress the pedal all the way the car will "sort of" run, firing a few revolutions and then stalling. Sort of reminds me of when a carbureated car is flooded and you step on the pedal. Runs rough a short time then stalls out. Since it ran normally for a short time this morning before stalling I doubt it is the timing. That wouldn't fix and then unfix. I also cleaned out the mafs without result. No water there eitherThanks

It still has the feeling of a fueling problem to me. See if you can get a loan of a fuel pressure gauge from Advance Auto or Autozone and check the pressure. If I recall, 43 PSI should be maintained.

I just re-read what I had posted earlier. I misspoke a bit in an earlier post. I meant to say that when I hit the reset button for the fuel pump this morning it did click and has not tripped since. That is when it ran for about 10 seconds normally before getting rough and stalling. Sorry for the misinformation. Thanks

What is it that you reset?

Hi Gus. I hit the fuel pump reset button in the fuse panel on the driver's side of the car inside the door.

That is an inertia switch and should only trip when striking something to turn of the fuel and power to the engine, unlock the doors and a few other things. Are you sure it is your problem or was it coincidental?

It could have been coincidental. The car had sat all night since I last tried to start it and that could hvae been why it ran for the 5-10 seconds before getting rough and dying. But it was before I checked the schrader valve where the strong stream of fuel occurred. Thanks

Fuel pumps fail and the only way to know is to check the pressure with a gauge. That would be the first thing I would check but keep in mind that you have a fuel filter between the pump and the engine.

I took the car to a mechanic (towed more accurate). He thinks it's the tensioners or ECU. Tensioners were replaced about 3-4000 miles ago. Any thoughts? Thanks

I think I would find another mechanic. Your problem sounds nothing like tensioners, and telling you might be the ECU is pure guesswork. You may have to find a shop that has factory level software, but I would shy away from dealers; it seems they have a tendency to throw parts at the car.

01 XK8, ran for 5-10 seconds then stalled. Now won't re-start. Does it spin real easy ? Sounds to me like it is flooded and you have bore wash. WOT will switch off the fuel to the engine so when flooded start at WOT and when it catches release and hope it keeps running.
This may not be a complete solution as it does not explain the initial stall.

I have had it towed to a mechanic who speaks jaguar. Hopefully he can diagnose and repair. The engine cranks normally. Fuel pressure at rails was 43 lbs so it wasn't fuel. The initial mechanic said it backfired through the throttle body. Thanks
