Hi all. I want to thank you all for all the advice and help you provided. In the end it appears I was misinformed. For some strange reason the person I bought the car from, who replaced all the tensioners, misspopke... Either he left in the old plastic tensioner for the small chain between the 2 camshafts on the passenger-side bank, most likely, or he replaced the old plastic one with a new plastic one. In either case, that tensioner was the old, plastic, unreliable one. It broke off, got lodged in a camshaft gear, and broke the chain. It is unknown whether or not any valves were damaged or if the long chain was damaged. In any case it is not a cheap fix and needless to say I am less than happy... Buyer beware!! It makes even madder because he sent me pictures of the "new style tensioners" that he installed. The driver's side has the new one. So he was either lazy or cheap. In any case it will be fixed soon. Sorry to hear of the damage but you are on the road again!

 

Not until the middle of next week. They won't know about valves or the long chain until tomorrow..
