Mystery fluid leak (part 2)
Hiya folks,
You may remember I recently posted about a potential coolant leak, well, I have a new theory, bare with me...
So, first off, I have checked every visible inch of the engine and it’s dry, every visible pipe also dry, the reservoir in the wheel arch, fine. The coolant level: perfect.
Now, I was having a think about everything leading up to the leak appearing and there’s a couple of things I think fit together. First off, two days before, I had the air con recharged (it had zero gas left) because I had a four hundred mile drive to do in blistering summer. The leak appeared after the six hour (with air con on the whole time) journey. Since then I’ve done a few short journeys with the air con off, in fact I haven’t used the air con since the leak appeared, AND..... it’s gone, no leak, no drips, no puddles (well, “puddle” is a bit strong, it was a collection of drips). So, here’s my nutty theory: could it be that after six hours of continuous use the air con system has produced a bunch of condensation (on the pipes for example) that resulted in the liquid dripping? Also, the first collection of drips was a tiny bit orange (I know, coolant is orange), but could that be the liquid was running along a rusty bit (picking up the colour) before dripping off? Bare in mind it dripped in two places, the second was clear liquid.
I know that all sounds a tad far-fetched, but that’s why I’m posting it, am I mental yes or no? :-P
