Default Mystery Part on rear suspension

I found this part separated from its fully locked position...and I've been trying to figure out its purpose. It connects to the driver side half shaft and appears to be connected to some sensor that monitors the cars suspension travel?

From its connection to that sensor housing, my first guess was it is only for the adaptive suspension found on the Xkrs. Anyone know for sure?

Perhaps that's why it was disconnected in the first place...not applicable on my car...but why install it then?

That is for the HID headlamp leveling. The lights are very bright and they need to be aimed properly. If you were to put alot of weight in the boot, then the lights would shine too high so the system needs to have suspension position information to compensate. It probably was not reconnected when suspension work was done in the past. It should be on the lower control arm (wishbone).

Yup, lower control arm, sorry about that.

Now that makes sense about the HID autolevel, perfect sense! thanks Bob
