Default Mystery Part

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...p?albumid=1559

I have never done this but I hope this is the link to the pictures of this mystery thing I found rattling around behind my bumper and just forward of my right roadwheel. It was trapped in the cowling or undercovering. What is it and where should I put it back to? Thank you.

That my friend would be whats left of a thermostat after if has been run over a 100 times .

The 2 tabs are used to mount it into the thermostat housing

Yep, the inside guts of the thermostat. I would like to know how it got back there. Not something that you just "loose" and it "just happens" to fall into a spot like that. I would venture to guess that if you just bought the car recently (especially from a local car lot), they were hoping that you would bring the car back to them so they could "diagnose" the problem and then get a few extra bucks out of you. But, that is all a guess. That is about the only reason why I could come up with for why something like that would be in a place like you found it.

I did just buy the car at a local lot but they claim they did no work on the thing; just "checked it out" and put it up for sale from an auction. I did track down the service advisor who worked on the thing for the original owner in Las Vegas and he stated she had sold the car last fall due to some occasional overheating issues that were never resolved. I am the same guy who has posted a thread about my fan control box which is in process of being replaced. Thermostats from older US cars are way bigger than this; my thermo housing looks quite intact and the temp rises fairly soon and locks in position all during my drive. So whatever is in there now is working pretty well. Thank you.

Sounds like whoever worked on the heating issue last.. just forgot about the part or dropped it down inside by accident. Looks like an old part. I've done that sort of thing with past cars...
