Default Navi DVD for 2001 XK8

Just purchased '01 XK8 convertible with factory installed navigation system. The navi DVD is from 1998. Have contacted dealer, as well as Alpine to try to obtain an updated DVD; no luck with either source. Any suggestions, other than purchasing a new navi system?

Thanks
Tim

There is an update, but it is from 2002/3. Unfortunately that is the latest available. They come up on ebay such as Jaguar XK8 XKR XJ8 XJR Navigation Disc LJG2441GA | eBay

I think there is a link to a disk image somewhere on the forum, but home burned DVDs are not as reliable/durable in a vehicle as the real thing.

Default Nav is toast

You'll likely find as many of us did that you'll have to replace the nav system if you want an update. You'd think folks would use some kind of standard disk but that unfortunately isn't the case and this system was discontinued so no new disks. But then again I changed out my entire stereo and the car sound wonderful now and I can get updated maps.

So, gotta ask. Anyone have a 2003 North America update disc I could borrow?

If your'e intending to make a copy you'll likely be sorely disappointed. I have the same nav system as you and have OEM 1998 and 2002 DVD's. I've tried on numerous occassions with different makes of disc and software and never succeeded in getting a useable copy. I think others have posted similar experiences with the odd success.

Do I need to keep the disc? Can I just install it and return the disc to the owner?

The disc needs to be permanently in the Nav DVD - the data is not copied to ROM so yes you need to return the original to the owner.
