Default Navigation DVD Issue

Hi Mark here inBrisbane. I have just purchased a privately imported (from UK) 11/2004 XKR for which I need to update the navigation DVD. The Aussie dealers I have contacted say it's not one of theirs so don't want to know. Suggested I use a 2004 Jag S Type DVD from Whereis.com and hope for the best. I tried this but it did not work. The screen just comes up with an error message! Does anyone know if any other 2004 Jag car navigation system was the same as the 2004 XKR? Would the navigation DVD be the same as the current XKR? Or where I can get a disc?
regards
Mark

Hi Mark-

Unfortunately there were never any further updates to this navigation DVD which was manufactured by Alpine. Jaguar ultimately severed ties with Alpine and support was dropped. There have been several attempts to resolve this with Jaguar and Alpine by some forum members, to no avail.

Go to the XK8/XKR forum and search on 'navigation' and you will find much discussion on this topic, as well as some idea for upgrading the system using 3rd party equipment.

Also, you will get much more exposure to your questions if you post in the XK8/XKR forum in the future.

Hi WhiteXKR (sorry dont know your first name). Thanks for the reply. I have looked at your car's setup and might consider this in the future, however can you advise if I find an Aussie Alpine disc (pre 2004?) could this work in the car (even though it will have old maps). As an IT guy I am confident I can hack any copyright locks on the disc,
regards
Mark

PS anyone in Australia have such a disc I could borrow for a few days?

If you can find an Australian Alpine disc of that vintage, I expect that it would work just fine.

Mark,

I am in the process if importing a 2003 XKR from the UK to Brisbane, so I will be in the same predicament as you with the DVD Navigation.

I am also in IT so maybe we can put our heads together to tackle the issue.

I'd also be interested on any tips or lessons learned you have on importing vehicles to QLD.

Rob.

Default Nz dvd

If anyone has any idea how I can put my hand on a DVD for New Zealand roads that would fit into my 2002 X Type, I'd be thankful for any suggestion.
Cheers.. .

Hi Mark,
How did you go with the DVD? I am confused as to why the WhereIs version we use in Australia did not work in your imported car. I thought all the Jag DVD Nav drives were made by Alpine. One thing I am fairly certain of is that the Toyota WhereIs discs work in the Jaguar Nav system as I bought version 15; 2007 (up to version 17 now) from ebay a couple of years ago of a seller who claimed it was for a Jaguar. When it arrived it had Toyota stamped on it. I am very sure it is a pirated version. It works fine but the colour is very dull on the screen. I do want to update now to the recently released V17 but feel that $300 is ridiculous. There is a V17 on ebay for $200 which is $100 off the retail price but even that is crazy. These discs must be copyable. And if anyone wants a copy of my V15 I am very happy to send one if some IT gury gives me some good advise.

For the benefit of our NZ brothers the WhereIs DVDs are one and the same for Aust and NZ.

Hi guys ive noticed a couple of members discussing the import of Jags the NZ and Aus. Where doews one start where this is concerned. I made preliminary inquiries last year and was told i could only import classic cars. I'm very interested in inporting a newer cat.

Joe, probably worth starting a new thread on this as it is a bit off topic on DVD navigation.
I am sure it's a topic that others will be interested in.

I am currently in the process (still) of importing an XKR from the UK. But hopefully the end is in sight as my car is booked on a boat in June.
I'll save the details for the new thread.

Rob.

Muncher I have a '11 XFR and if your XKR is 2006+ the disk I have should work. Mine came with the car but I would not purchase it as the latest maps (V6- NZ) are only updated to 2008. My Garmin Nuvifone with Lifetime maps is far far better but it is nice to have the onboard Nav system working and I do use it often.

I have a 2006 XK imported from Japan and the nav unit had a Jap DVD inserted. Not much good here! I bought a NZ DVD from Whereis and it does bring up the map display, but no street names and the destination input won't accept addresses. I suspect its becaus ethe actual DVD drive is also Jap. as I took the cover off and it has a "JPN" label stuck on it. How primitive that they don't just have different firmware for different languages! So I am stuck with a $A300 DVD that doesn't work for me. If anyone can offer any suggestions, I'd react in a suitably grateful manner as I do have a DL DVD burner.
