In need of radio help.
97 XK8 Convertible. I dismantled the power antenna to change the mast. Repair went ok. When I reinstalled it I saw the radio was stuck on 1 station and all buttons were unresponsive. Seems like this happened once b4 but the CD up down was jammed. I wondered if it was a software thing so I disconnected the battery for a few minutes. Afterwards the radio was dead,no display, no life at all. I tried unplugging antenna and checked fuses. the 10 amp fuse in the passenger(R) box has a feedback on the:to radio side as well as a brighter light on the supply side. Anyone have a suggestion? Any assistance is appreciated, thanks

Most car audio systems have a difficult-to-spot reset button somewhere on the outside of the chassis. It is often recessed into a small round hole and must be pressed with a dowel, screwdriver, etc. There have been a couple of times when the Blaupunkt audio unit in my 1999 Ram conked out on me since I installed it in November 2001. In both cases, finding and pressing that reset button brought the unit back to life....

Don't quite understand about the "brighter light" reference.
There are two fuses for the radio supply - #9 @ 10A and #12 @ 5A - both in the passenger-side fuse box - check both. Also - check #9 in the trunk fuse box as this protects the supply to the power antenna.
Shouldn't make any difference but do you have the 'standard' or 'premium' audio kit (latter has a separate amplifier in the trunk and tweeters on the inside by the rear-view door mirrors), and is it the early Harmon-Karden head unit with the LCD display over on the right, and the sort-of 'joystick' multi-function up/down button also towards the right of the unit ?

thanks for the quick replies. 1 of my test lights is reading a dim light from the radio at the 10 amp fuse. and a brighter 12v light on the supply side. A feed back coming from the radio is my guess. It is the early Harmon-Karden head unit with the LCD display over on the right, and the multi-function up/down button. it offers no brand other than model AJ 9600A and part #LJA4100BA. I pulled the radio and opened it up. Everything appears as new inside. I got a little more spark that anticipated when I reconnected the + battery post but havent found any blown fuses

Looks like you know what you are doing so ....................
check you have 12v on the two purple/brown wires and the white yellow wire with the ignition in position 1. If not, the problem is not inside the head unit.
If that's OK, look inside the head unit. There's a resistor behind the heatsink at the rear which gets overheated and blows. Picture shows replacement - bit fiddly but not impossible ........... !!
Happy Christmas !
