Need Variable Valve Timing Seal
I am in the process of rebuilding the engine of my 2000 XK8. The prior owner never changed the oil and the oil turned into sludge (only 43K miles). The seals on what I believe are the variable valve timing hub are bad. There is one seal on each side (right and left). I called the dealer and was told this was a "life time" part and that you cannot purchase the seal. They want sell me the entire assembly for $500 per side. This is probably a $2 part and someone has to sell the seal (it looks more like an o ring or a collar). Does anyone have any advice on where I can purchase this seal or what the part number is? This is the hold up on my rebuild and I am trying to complete the rebuild in time to enjoy the September weather and use my car with the top down.
Thanks
Thanks
Try Continental Imports in CA. They helped me out when I needed an oil control solenoid for the VVT. Phone #(510) 532-6603. No current Web site. Hopefully get you a seal or a good used part.

Without knowing exactly which seals you are looking at, I will guess at
part # NNE2622BA. These seals are fibre split rings that seal the actuator to the VVT unit on the intake cam. Call the dealer and get the JEPC part description for 'XK8 COUPE/CONVERTIBLE FROM (V)A00083 TO (V) A30644/ENGINE/TIMING CHAINS AND ADJUSTERS/TIMING CHAIN-SECONDARY-4.O LITRE-V8' and look at the exploded view for the part. You should be able to pick the part from the diagram. you could also ask them to look up the part # and look at the diagram to see if it is the part you need.
