Can anyone tell me roughly how much I might have to pay for a used, good condition, 4.2 motor?

I've seen used motors from $4000.00 to $8000.00 online.

Try Car-Part.com to locate the salvage yards that have the engines are for your specific model/year.

The Mid Atlantic region is not as good as North Carolina for 4.2 Jag engines.

I'm sorry, but the 4.2 engines are not nearly as plentiful as the A26 and A27 4.0 engines.

Coventry West in Lithonia, GA (E. Atlanta) is also a major Jag salvage operation--and you can find just about anything there.

Convert it to one of those Chevy crate motors. The cost difference might not be very much after everything is said and done.
