New to the forum and lot of questions
Good morning
I am new to this forum. I am from Canada and interested in a 06 XK8 Victory convertible.
I am intending to use the car on occasion on summer time. Car has 45 000 miles on it. Seems to be in pristine condition in and out.
I am not a handy man at all and cant work by myself.
Finaly my choice was between one of these: 06 Xk8 victory, an 05 Xkr and a 98 DB7 i6.
My questions are:
Will it be very costy to maintain with aforementionned infos.
I was looking for a Xk/Db7 for the james bond cliche and mainly for Ian Callum magnificent pen draw. Which of these 2 do you recommand ? I find the Xk8 from some angles prettier. But an Aston is an Aston.
Any other considerations i should take in such a purchase?
Thank you for your help.

A member of our local Jag club recently sold his DB7. He said it was a nuisance to maintain. The Jags are much more reliable, but you will need a good independent shop if you don't do your own maintenance. The XK8 is a little simpler, so if you don't feel the need for the extra power it's probably the better choice.
The cost of maintaining is somewhat dependent on how the previous owner treated and maintained the car. Having a full set of service records and getting a PPI will help.

If you can't do repairs yourself, cost of ownership past initial purchase can/will be costly. Knowing you don't work on them your self, buy one with a documented maint history, a MUST.
Low miles and good looks DO NOT signify great running shape, thousands of trouble free driving ahead, this IS NOT a Honda.
The car is 10 years old now, the many rubber components from cooling system to the front end suspension are nearing end of life cycle.
Read through all the threads in this section. Lots of insight in them alone.
Documented history i would be looking for is any transmission maint, cooling system maint, front end work, etc. If it just look pretty and the owner says she runs great but has no maint history, well, think long and hard before buying.

Hi the db7 and xk8 will be /is a classic and will only go up in price but if you look at the price of the dbs now compared to 10 years ago it makes you think what the db7 will be in a few years time, but I remember when you could get a e type for £5000 in the uk and now look at the price so both good investments.
I think that if you are not able to do maintenance yourself, then you need to have a significant annual budget available for maintenance on any of these cars. If you are concerned about maintenance costs, I'd advise you to look for something a little more 'Japanese' !
I recommend you seriously consider the 05 XKR if mileage and condition is similar to that of the 06 XK8,

If I cannot DIY most of the maintenance and repairs on ANY vehicle I am considering, I simply do not buy it. If you're having to pay someone else, even an indie shop, these cars can drain your wallet in short order....
Not sure if you're suggesting that Ian Callum had something to do with the XK8's design. He didn't. You can thank the late Geoff Lawson for that.
