New Jag Owner First Question! Missing Homelink!
I picked up my 99 XK8 today.. and absolutely love it!!! I enjoyed the sunny weather with the top down and could not be happier with the performance. Now, to my question: This car seems to be missing the HOME LINK in the upper console. I have looked at pictures of what I can find and it seems to be a unit that is more an oval shape with 3 buttons on it. Now, I own a Chrysler Sebring that has the HOME LINK in the visor. Sure does look similar with the ones that I found in pictures and in the Owners Manual. So.. question... is it the SAME unit in the Sebring that I can remove and install into my XK8??? Please let me know or if there is another place to look for this device!
Big time thanks in advance!!!

Very good chance that it is the same unit. It would have to match to US garage door openers not Jaguar specs. But the connector may be different.
I have a different Home Link question. Mine works fine but has a very limited range, maybe 25' windshield to motor head. When leaving I have to activate the door within a few feet of exiting the garage or pull back up and try again.
The hand held remote has a range 3 to 4 times that.

It could be the angle in which your homelink is trying to reach your garage door opener antenna. I have similar problems with one micro opener I have on a keychain. When the key is in the ignition I have to press the opener button at the level of the steering wheel column. The range, because of all the interference, is very small. Sometimes I have to pull right up to the garage door. However, when I use that same opener outside of the car, the range increases several fold.
You cannot move the homelink on the overhead, but you might get some improvement if you extend the wire antenna on the garage door opener a little further down. The antenna is usually a small gauge wire about 12" long and extending out of the motor control housing.

HomeLink makes the in-car openers for all car makes. The only issue would be that an older version may not work if your opening device has the secure rolling code system. I bought one off ebay that came out of a Jeep and installed it in my 88 Rolls Royce. Looks factory and works perfectly.
