Hello; Where is the best place to find out if my '99 XK8 4.0 vin#SAJGX2043XC032833 has plastic or metal timing chain guides and tensioners? It's just turning 80,000mi. Am I correct in thinking this should be done before 100,000mi
Thanks
Mitch

Mitch,

I've moved your question from US Northeast Region to XK8/XKR forum.

The model forum is the best place to post technical questions and members here with the same model will be able to help.

I hate to be that guy, but you need to pull the valve covers and check ASAP. When these secondary tensioners fail, the cost of the replacement engine parts rival the value of the entire car. These are so problematic, you should probably park the car until you find out for sure.

You have the 1st generation plastic ones. Mine were ready to fail at 50,000m

if you don't have proof yours were changed, better check. That means removing the valve covers.

Thanks fmertz. I have the car down now. I just thought there was an easier way than pulling the valve cover.

Lots of previous posts regarding tensioners. Do a search.

SNGBarratt.com is my default vendor. Ask for the forum discount.
