New member with a brake light issue
I just joined the forum as I have found forums for the Benz ML55 and Porsche 911 I owned previously to be of immense value. I picked an extremely clean, 60K miles, one owner XK8 convertible a year and a half ago after selling my ML and love it. Recently I have developed an issue with the rear brake and turn signals am at a loss.
1) it started intermittently with a "rear bulb failure" message, sometimes there was no issue with the lights, sometimes only the third brake light would work.
The message would flash with the turn signals and be continuous with the pedal depresses.
2) the light is always on now when the brake pedal is depressed (I am depressed also) and flashes with the turn signals.
3) using the right blinker causes both turn signals to flash dimly and the third brake light to flash brightly
4) left blinker does the same except the third brake light does not flash
5) pressing brake pedal only activates third brake light
The brake switch at the pedal was replaced a couple months ago when the cruise stopped working. Cruise is functioning properly now.
I would really appreciate any insight.

disconnect the connection to the tail light assembly and look at the connector for a burnt ground lead. quick and cheapest fix is to install a jumper to ground from the light housing - do a search and you will find other threads/pics of the fix.
See post 8 in this thread for pics https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...esolved-35083/
I had similar issues when I first got my Jag and dealer wanted $1700 to replace the BPM when all it turned out to be was a burnt ground lead.

Thanks so much! I ran out to the garage, fortunately it is air conditioned in the summer heat we have been having in St Louis. I had a couple bottles of water, turned the ballgame on, and prepared for a couple hours. After 15 minutes the problem was fixed! Ground on the driver's side rear bulb housing where the molex connector attaches was corroded. I really appreciate the prompt correct diagnosis. My AMG ML used to drive me crazy as the dealer ALWAYS was at a minimum of $3000 to do anything, same with all of the 911s I have owned. MBWorld.org saved me literally 10s of thousands in 180,000 miles of driving. That was a truly bad *** truck but I got sick of the reliability issues and bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Jag. I had a 71,83,86 911 then got a 91 C4 which was really not a good car. I could do anything to the old ones with help from PCA guys around St Louis. I have to admit the 86 was KILLER and the only car I have liked better than the Jag. I bought my wife an 05 X Type from an 83 year old man in Chicago in 2011 with 9,700 original miles. She has put maybe 6,000 / yr on it with zero, and I mean 0 issues. It now resides with her in FL after our divorce last year. We had a 96 XJ6 that was not as nice to us.
Thanks again for the help, much appreciated.
