Default Newbie Greetings!

Hi All,

What a fantastic forum!

I'm about to jump in and purchase an XK8 or R..yet to decide, found 2 beautiful examples '97 XK8 with 60,000 miles, full history (black) or 01 XKR Silverstone (silver) also full dealer history with 96,000 on the clock.
My heart is telling me the R ...

Any issues I might want to consider?

All the best from Switzerland

Spoons

Welcome.
I'd pick the R unless the 8 is a vert. If you poked around here you know the common issues with pre 03s.

Welcome to the forum Spoons,

Have a look in the FAQ's https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ts-data-29800/ at the top of this forum for regular issues with the XK8/XKR.

For preferences and opinions on normally aspirated versus supercharged, see this thread:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ged-v8-131068/

I recall speeding can be very expensive in Switzerland which could influence your choice!

Good luck with your purchase. I keep telling myself that hey when I have to change the shocks my XK8's will cost a fraction of the adjustible ones in the XKR's. Truth is it would be a hell of a lot of fun to have the supercharger and the active suspension. You can go back and forth. It is a tough decision but either way you are going to be smiling for a long time mate.

You know, right after I pushed send, a though occured to me. Some of the options are so nice I couldn't live with out them. I don't have them all but heated seats (later years offer heat setttings as I recall), premium sound system, powered mirrors, adaptive speed control, traction control (xk8) are just a few examples. You might want to compare the options on the two cars to see which you like better. Did one of these cars have the tensioners replaced not the other? Might help you make the decision.

personally I would not do an R, more costly stuff on it. The basic xk8 is bad enough. ha ha ha

what's the difference in prices? my XK8 'vert is Silver with black leather interior - looks and feels like a proper classic Jaguar (to me anyway) Black only looks good mint cond and polished regularly. take the one with the best service history and feels the newest to drive. when u have two to choose from you can use that fact to haggle with.

I own an R and all the work has basically been pretty easy and straightforward repair wise. Forbid you blow a motor you can get a used one relatively cheap as well. Id go R and never look back. And if the adjustable suspension seems a bit steep down the line. You could always put regular shocks in. Youll want the R....Really
