Newbie with questions
Hi Guys
After a lot of negotiating and price haggling I brought home a MY2001 XK8 yesterday, it needs a bit of TLC but nothing to major. I have ordered secondary tensioners and gaskets and will do that job soon but I have a couple of questions and hope someone can advise. It's an English RHD version car.
When the ignition is turned on, a fan starts running that sounds like it's behind the passenger side knee bolster. It also runs for about 5 seconds after turning the igntition off before stopping. I thought it was the interior A/C fan at first, but the A/C is turned off. When the A/C is turned on, the speed controlled fans work fine so what is this mystery fan ?
Also, the EXT button to display the external temperature has an intermittent fault. It activates when going over bumps on rough roads, causing the EXT temp to flash up on the screen with a short 'beep' each time the switch closes itself. Is there an eay way to get the A/C control panel out in order to fix the button/switch ? The button doesn't do anything when pressed, so I think it's guts have become dislodged behind the panel.
That's all for now. It has plenty of other little issues but nothing that I can't sort out. Mechanically it seems sound and runs very well.
Thanks in advance......

Do you see a small square grill in the knee bolster near the fan noise? There is a small fan behind that to draw air into a temp sensor for the climate control system.
The control panel can be removed and it required taking the console out but it's not too bad to do.

Thanks for your reply. No it's not that little fan, this fan noise is similar to the noise from those 4" cooling fans on PC power supplies. it can also be heard on the engine side of the firewall/bulkhead but I can't see where it's coming from.
I wondered if there are two sets of interior fans, one set for A/C and another for general recirculation ?
Also it's not the radiator cooling fans I can here either.
