I ashamed to say Rev Sam, I dont know how to post pics. My car seems to be a magnet for scantily clad women. Its almost a requirement for them to get in the passenger seat...high exposed thigh and aggresive cleavage. Lol On another note, using 93 octane with a fresh tune up and properly inflated tires, I got about 21 mpg. My average speed was around 85 mph. Oh, and the car was immaculate. (They always seem to run better when they are clean) my car has 152k so perhaps thats why I dont get that great mileage like some of you....or perhaps if I leave my 120lb scantily ckad woman

Supercharging doesn't make much differerence to highway mpg but the 6spd transmission helps.

I think renaultvation is the winner of the best economy award, 30mpg is impressive for any model, supercharged or not.

By the way, here is my picture of an exotic location: Dover ferry terminal with Mrs renaultvation (Liz) in the passenger seat!

Anyone done a real cross-country trip? I'm thinking of buying an XK8 in California and driving to Florida. I am a little concerned because everyone is excited about their 700 mile trouble-free trip. How about a 2,000 mile trip?

I bought my car in Houston and drove it 1200 miles to Phoenix the next day. And AFTER that trip I started on all the maintenance that the previous owner didn't do.

My point in posting about a 700 mile trip was not that it was some amazing feat but just that the forum tends to be a place where people talk disproportinately about problems.

These are not unreliable cars by any means.

I've pretty much got to agree with a lot of what's being said. I bought my XKR in October and have sorted a couple of issues out (replaced the Gen2 secondary tensioners and replaced a faulty wheel speed sensor that died on me) and I try to use the car as frequently as possible.
Last weekend I did a 500 mile round trip which is by far the longest trip so far and she didn't miss a beat. It was an absolute joy. There were a few hooligan moments - 100mph+, some hard acceleration.......arrrgghhh......the joy of that supercharger, but generally cruising at around 80 - 90 on the dual carriageway and just going with the flow on the single carriageway sections and still averaged 21.7mpg at 58mph which I think is pretty impressive for what it is. I get the distinct feeling that had I just set the cruise at 70 and been generally frugal with the gogo pedal then I would have easily acheived 25mpg.
It's very easy to feel that you'll be lucky to get it out of the garage and onto the road without an error code popping up, but I certainly feel my confidence in the car is growing as I use it more and get to know it better.
Happy New Year to all.
Andy

The scantily clad woman is just for bonus points, but the car pictures should be a RULE!

Time to send a message to Jim, I guess.
But the bird silohouette(sp?) remains optional for 5000 bonus points.

Grant Francis just did 4000km in a S-Type. He's also done it with 80's and 90's Jags .. in Australia at temps > 40*C.

I have a complete repair history form the dealer since new and at almost 80k miles I have the factory O2 sensors. As I said in my post, I am using ethanol free fuel which I believe helps to eek out a couple of mpg's

Yes, original sensors. Averaging 28 mpg highway driving, use cruise control, reasonably flat terrain, 6 speed, not going stupid fast. Hilly terrain will kill your mpg real fast.

Haven't actually looked, but based on other parts I've replaced I'd say I have the original O2 sensors. 25-26 mpg on highway with 102k+ on the clock.

Thanks to all who responded about their O2 sensors.

You can all get back to happy stories now. Donuts in the snow scheduled at midnight

I have replaced a lot of parts in the three years and 52,000 miles I've owned my XKR, but not 02 sensors. I would assume they are the originals. The great gas mileage on my L.A. to Bay Area trips may be due to the virtually straight line, nearly flat Highway 5 that traverses the state with little or no deviation and no traffic, so that when I stop for breakfast at the halfway point in either direction, it's the first time I've stepped on the brake pedal for the most part. It takes very little effort and very little gas to maintain a brisk pace in the XKR once it's up to speed.

tberg brings up a good point. Most of my highway driving is on flat, straight roads. The only impediment to consistent speed being traffic or construction (or both). Hills, mountains or frequent curves are not usually found in my part of the woods.

Pics, or it didn't happen.

My wife and I took ours on about an 8000 mile trip from North Carolina, all the way to New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado a couple of summers ago. Here's the link: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...in-road-39254/

I love reading through that thread every once in a while. It brings back some awesome memories. And I included PICTURES! (hint hint)

It's not a silhouette! It's an actual bird! Here's the original picture:

I had to reduce the imiage quality to upload the whole thing, but here's an original quality zoom on the bird:

See! You can see the details of the bird (kinda)! It's not a silhouette!

It was just a lucky catch. I snapped the pic at exactly the right moment. It was completely accidental.

And here's the bird a few seconds before I snapped it in front of the car. I was taking pictures of it and then it flew away. Since it flew away I figured I may as well go ahead and snap a pic of the Jag. The bird happened to fly right between me and the Jag and I didn't even realize it at first. When the pic popped up on the little screen on my camera I was like "WHOA! That's groovy!!!"

And this is where we were when I snapped the picture. We weren't actually up in the arch, we were down the hill a little ways.

And here's my wife and I up in the arch. It was very cool.

And here's a pic of my hot wife with the car somewhere in Utah. Or maybe it was Northern Arizona. I'm not quite sure. Sorry about the blurry face. She's a privacy freak.

I know it's a real bird ... that's why I said "optional"

I don't know. For those who don't know, PR is a US territory so we measure in american mpgs and american gallons, although the price at the pump is calculated with Liters.

I think the problem is that my car might have a slight fuel leak which I think might be due to that recall regarding the fuel pump filter.
