Default RE: Not sure what several buttons do

1. The button with the S is for sport mode and when it is raised the shifts on the left side of the J shifter can be used. The other button is to turn on/off the cruise control.

2. Keeps trunk from opening with the valet key or if someone breaks into the car and tries to open with the dash button. It can be opened with the primary key, key fob, or with the dash button after the car is opened with the primary key or fob

3. Those are for resetting the trip computer A & B. The easiest way to become familure with them is to just work with the buttons.

Item 4. When in sport mode in the 2 position the transmission starts out in 1st gear, whereas in drive it starts out in 2nd gear. The gears in sport mode wind out more, or as the book states it, "When sport mode is selected the gear shift points are extended to make full use of the engine's power reserves."

Good for dusting off snot-nosed kids in what they think are hot rice-burners or others of like mind, if your into that sort of thing.

3) you have to press the button on the end of the left stalk to bring up the trip computer functions.

Unless the earlier models differ from my 2005, the button to the left of the shifter is not for cruise control but is for setting the speed limiter, which prevents the car from exceeding a pre-set speed.
I also really never use the Sport mode. I prefer to just start in 2nd position (first gear) and upshift manually.

That's interesting. On my 2001 with normal cruise control the button definitely is just to switch it on and off.

You can download a copy of the handbook in the "sticky" section
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...006-faq-67827/

also, check under the spare tire, the dealer I bought my from told me it was common practice to put them there.

Just realized this is a revived very old thread

Where and why did you dig this one up?

I do hope the GUEST who posted the question in February 2007 has long since found the answer. One button he never did find was the forum registration.

I have the same layout as Stamford. Cruise control is on the steering wheel. My car had all the manuals in Japanese so not much use. I found the info here in the forum.
