Default O2 Sensor Replacement

Good Afternoon:

After doing some digging around, I have found that the wiring to the front O2 sensor on the passenger side of my XKR has been chewed up by some rodent

I have decided to give replacing it a go.

I have two questions:

1) How do you remove the protective silver covered plate that is protecting the 02 sensor? Is there anything else I should be be weary of before replacing?

2) Which Side is Bank A on the US Models.?

Thank you.

The A bank is passenger side on a 2001.

Are you talking about the stiff fiberglass-like material heatshields? They are just bolted on.

Access to the O2 sensors is very limited on the XKR, and they often require a huge amount of torque to remove. You may find it easier to remove the entire catalytic converter to get the sensors off.

Attached is my write-up on a catalytic converter upgrade, which will have useful information for this job.

If you can't or don't want to remove the cats spend some time and spray the O2 sensor with PB Blaster and give the bugs/threads a good whack with drift and hammer periodically. It helps to remove the sensor when it is hot either from a torch or from runing the engine.
