Default OBD codes

Well, it looks like the project for the morrow is to clean the wheel speed sensors, as I'm getting "ABS/ASC not available" messages. My OBD reader is showing a P1111 code, but I'm not sure what that refers to. I looked at Gus' file in FAQ's, but I couldn't find any OBD code explanations, although I'm sure I've seen them somewhere? Too much top-down driving lately has fuzzied the brain maybe....

The P1111 means that your system check is complete. You can find this info under OBD codes roe the year car you have. For example this is for a AJ27 Engine Management 1999 MY http://www.gusglikas.com/images/Auto...J27%201999.pdf Look on the first page at the bottom

You will always have either P1000 or P1111. Neither indicate a problem. When the codes are reset the car goes through a cycle to make sure all of the emissions bits are working properly. It takes several drive cycles to complete. So, after you reset your codes, it might take a day or two, or even a week or more before the Drive Cycle Status is complete. Once it is complete, you'll get the P1111. Here in North Carolina the Drive Cycle Status has to be complete before you can pass an emissions inspection. That prevents someone from resetting their check engine light five minutes before they have an emissions inspection done. If you reset your trouble codes you'll get a P1000 until the cycle is complete, then you'll get a P1111.

Also, keep in mind that most basic Code Readers will not read ABS Codes. Some of the newer ones will include this capability.

Another easy diagnostic test is covered in the ABS Hard Fault sheet on Gus' website. By following the procedure there you will be testing the connection from the wheel sensors up through the harness to the ABS CPU interface plug. Very useful and easy to do.

If you do end up needing a CPU fix, I recommend these guys: Module Masters > Home - fast, honest and good work. In my case I wish I'd gone straight to them at the outset and not futzed around with interim solutions...

Well, it looks like I skated once again! With particular thanks to Gus and the Rev, I cleaned the wheel speed sensors- they were all dirty and scuzzy-looking - and the "NO ABS/ASC" message is gone. May the FSM be praised! In fact, I was SO happy, I went out and bought an X-Type today, just to keep the "8" company in the garage. Now I'll be able to 'Jag it' even in wintertime. Although I think the Jeep will still have to do the heavy slugging.

Thanks again, all. Will update my garage once I get the new Cat home.

Scott,

Congrat's! If you run out of garage space up there, I'll be glad to make room here for the E-Type (or does that belong to a relative??)

It will be a chore to rearrange things here, but after all what are friends for?

Thanks for the offer, Dennis, but the E-type belongs to my brother now, and I don't think you could pry it away from him for anything. Believe me, many have tried.
