Angry OBDI not working

Bought another OBDI reader: ADOTER ADN 200 which reportedly works with a 2002 Jaguar XKR but goes through all of the power up tests then indicates "COMMUNICATION ERROR"
Same thing with my other reader !!! Anyone have an answer ??

Thanks,
Ken in WV By Golly

I don't have an answer. Sorry. But your experience mirrors mine 100%.

until I bought this product, I had 3 code readers fail to connect to my '02 XKR

Amazon Amazon

I'm not getting 100% usefulness from the icarsoft LR V-1, but at least it reads fault codes and can erase them most of the time satisfactorily .

If you find a better reader, please let me know.

this one might be better:
Amazon Amazon

but I have feeling it's going to take a lot more $$$ to have full connectivity with our cars.

See if you can "force" ISO-9141, the old serial protocol. The car has CAN and SCP, but OBDII is not available over those.

Check fuses & relays that are in the circuit.

I wish I could help you but I only use professional equipment in my shop... Autel and Launch make some cheaper units that connect very well...

I've never read codes with the car running.

I had someone connect a code reader with my car running and it caused a 'Restricted Performance" error until I started it about 3 times.

i guess I wasn't being very clear. I'm not checking for fault codes, I'm more interested in engine temperature, transmission temperature, oil pressure, etc. that kind of thing. Engine off would do me no good.

However, the cheapie code / data readers would not connect on my car engine off, engine on, nada.

You'll need OBD II not I.

Even the cheap ones should work but some are badly made - bit of a chancy business sadly.

I see now. I bought a $20 transmitter that plugs into the ODB-II port and connects via Bluetooth to a free app on my Android phone. I can set up custom readouts/gauges.

I used this after fixing my octopus hose leaks to monitor coolant temp. Worked great.

Don't leave it plugged in though- drained my battery.
