Default oil usage on 97 xk8

I seem to be using a quart of oil every 800 or so miles . Should I be worried that I might need an engine rebuild?

depends, what is the mileage, type of oil and driving conditions. perhaps you simply have a small leak. BTW this usage is normal in some vehicles. even if there is an issue, you might go 200k miles without it getting progressively worse.

Welcome to the forum lorenzo45,

The Jaguar V8 doesn't tend to use oil. Is it leaking or burning it?

Mine goes through about the same. Maybe a quart every 1k (less if driven on the highway a lot). Chances are it is sucking it through the intake. Pull off your intake tube and have a look inside. I have thought about removing the breather tube and replacing both sides with a filter to see if that stops it but have been too lazy.
