Default One touch windows

My 2005 XKR is the first car I had with one-touch-down windows which I like. Even better is the one-touch-up/down windows on my wife's new car and on most new cars. I noticed in the brochure for the 2006 XK8/XKR that the up/down one-touch was a standard feature for 2006.

Is there some simple mod to convert my 2005 down-only system to down and up? Perhaps something as simple as a switch replacement? Or are there significant modifications necessary to achieve this?

Thanks,

Doug

Good question Doug, that annoys me too.
Anyone know?

I've been wondering about this as well.

It is a software controlled feature. I suspect that for liability reasons Jaguar disables this.

I know on the 2007 X150 models it is only disabled in North American Markets. Perhaps someone outside N.A. can comment on this on the 2005.

I am not sure if it is programable with SDS/WDS...pehaps someone with the tool can comment.

This is also something that I was wondering about because my 2002 X-Type has one touch up and down windows and they're great. It seems if Jaguar allowed one touch up on a 2002 X-Type, it should be possible on 2002 or later XK8/Rs.

My S Type (03) has them also. The '02's and earlier didn't as they did not have the safety clutch mechanism, maybe the XK8/R's never got it?
I would have thought with the facelifts being at the same time in '03 it would have been common, but this is Jaguar!

So this topic kind of died. I guess that means there is no easy/obvious way to make the windows one touch up as well as one touch down?

If there is enough interest I probably can make a module that can send a command via the CAN bus to to raise the windows when the button is pressed.

I am in the process of developing a similar technology for the X150 (2007 and later XK/XKR) remote top module, and should be able to reapply it here with some different software.

Be great to have one button up windows. You make a kit, I'll buy it. Just let me know.

If it were something simple that did not require a bunch of wire cutting and dis-assembly then I would absolutely be on board. Would need to be $100 or less and install easily in an hour or less.

As a rule, none of my products require cutting the vehicle wiring...they either plug-in or use none-destructive wire taps.

I realize that but one of the mods that was posted (I think it was for the lowering the top via remote) required removing wheel liners to run wires into the engine compartment or something like that which is just a bit more of a pita that I was willing to undertake. I forget if that was one of yours but I was always just on the brink of getting that kit but then decided not to due to more hassle than I had time or interest to handle.

Yes, there is couple of hours of work or so (maybe even 3 if you go methodically) to install the remote top module, but I would venture to say that most who have done it have felt it was a worthwhile investment.

You will need an auto-stop/reversing feature included as a safety measure, no? All OEM is thus supplied. BTW my 2006 does not have auto-up. My other cars do and frankly I only like it on front windows (not an issue for the XK8). With rear windows if a kid or pet is back there you have to be extremely careful hitting that switch. Many people have been surprised at how much force the window will apply before auto-reversing.

Yes, this is surely why the OEMs disable this easily provided feature, or only provide it for the driver. I agree though, on the XK8/R it is not so much of an issue.
