Default Opinions Needed

so i stumbled upon this 98 XK8 with 154k miles, and which looks really good from what i can tell in the pictures, and says TLC needed, called the owner up, and he said its in Restricted Performance, and gave me a list of codes it reads
P1313, P1316, P0202,P1242
im a very hands on Person, so any work will not be a problem, my question is, is this a good/reasonable/smart choice, or should i just walk away from this, its located in Chicago, and i love 4 hours away in Michigan. The owner says he could drive it to Michigan (hes not actually going to drive to Michigan) with no problem. thanks in advance

154,000 miles, a bunch of codes, and its a four hour drive. Not the stuff of dreams.

You didn't give us a price; but unless it is under $5000 I wouldn't touch it. Even then, I'd probably keep looking.

  1. Injector not firing on bank 2 -0202
  2. Sensor power supply circuit high voltage -1242
  3. Misfire rate catalyst damage bank 1 - 1313
  4. Misfire excess emissions - 1316
Something going on in the injector circuit on bank 2. Could just be a $25 injector or upstream into the ECM. A wild guess on my part is an injector shorted / stuck open. 154k not out of the question but not sure if it's likely. But, could be a number of things.

The bank 1 vs bank 2 thing makes me wonder if the codes are correct or if there are typos.

If one or both cats are burned up from excess fuel that can get expensive or opportunistic if you get my drift.

$4k, not bad but could get better. If I could get it for a real fire sale I'd take a chance. Might be a few more surprises. See how bad he wants to unload it.

For $4k I don't think you can go wrong. Worst thing you can part it out and get your money back. If I lived closer, I'd buy it myself.

Good luck. Keep us posted. You may want to buy it and then we could have another major overhaul long term thread... ;-)
