Default P0121 abs/trac limp home

I've had a reoccuring problem with the ABS/Trac yellow light coming on and attributed it to dirty sensors. Recently it cleared up entirely.

Th is afternoon I got the full dump: red light and limp home and code P0121. I cleared the codes, cleaned (again) the Throttle Body plugs and it is OK for the moment.

I read somewhere about a gold plug repair/replacement kit as part of a P0121 fix but can't find the link now.

Anyone know where I can get one of these kits?

I've had problems with the connectors before and cleaned and reseated them with good results.

I think this last event is related to the intermittant ABS/TRAC code I'm getting which is, in turn, related to dirty wheel sensors (I hope) or a bad harness to the RF wheel - that's what the dealer code reader picked up (a $250 repair)

I cleared the code and it runs fine for now. I'm going to hobble it home and do the simple stuff first - clean the sensors.

Default Dealer Scan

I just talked to the dealer who did the timing chain 2 weeks ago and he said they'll diagnose the thing for free. In their experience the TB pin swap helps about 50% of the time.

I might be wrong but the way I see it is that the P0121 indicated a Throttle Position Sensor failure (TPS) this in turn inhibits the “Limp Home Mode”, Inhibits – Idle Speed Control, Cruise Control & Traction / Stability Control. If it were me I would clean and tighten the plug connectors or replace them with the gold tip plugs. If that failed to clear the problem I would have a test done on the TB and this could be conducted by Jaguar. I might be wrong but I am not convinced that it is anything other than a poor connection or defective TB. But I am not an expert!

I checked with my Jag dealer. They want $118.55 for the Gold Tip Kit, $30 each for the 4 connectors. I though I read somewhere it only cost $18 for this kit. Anyone have information on the cost of the repair kit?

you can get them from nelly jag for about 7-8 bucs each, they give us 15% dicount. good luck

Thanks, but getting the new battery in a full state of charge fixed this problem with my car.

I was getting the ABS/Traction control message for several weeks. I cleaned the ABS sensors and the throttle body. No change. Then I turned off the console switch for performance mode. Have not seen the message since.

I agree completely with finishing up the thread you start with a problem. I also finished mine in thread I started. I search this problem and found many people with the same problem but it just ended w/o the fix.

I'm the OP and just resolved the issue, I think.

First, I cleaned the sensors using the excellent instructions. No change.

Second, I bought a new battery. No change.

Finally, I coughed up $150 for the *********** to scan it and per the code replaced the RF ABS Sensor Wire (P/N LJD3410AA) It ran $44 at www.parts@jaguarparts.com, Davis Auto Group) and 1/2 hour of my time vs. $290 for the dealer to do it..the process is really simple.

The code didn't shgow on my inexpensive Actron reader, but might on a better one.. I'm only 2 days into the repair, so I don't really know if it's fixed...

Thanx spurlee, appreciated. Let us know. The ABS codes cant be read by generic scanners, so trips to the dealer for diagnosis is sometimes worth the time and money.

Hindsight is 20/20. I spent $150 getting the thing diagnosed. With this car I'm SURE I'll need another read, maybe I should just buy a better scan tool...

man all this stuff in this thread SOOOO seems to fix my issue with my 97.
Is there that GOLD TIPS thingy for my car? Just having had two OTHER TB's put on the car with the same result it can't be a TB issue I think.
