Okay, I finally got another chance to look at this issue a little more today. FYI, 2 different MAF sensor produce the same results. At idle around 3.8. One of them is a Denso, not sure of the other.
At idle:
ST trims hovering back and forth around 0 +/-
LT trims sitting around 17
Fuel pressure around 380

I cannot seem to find a leak. Certainly cant hear one unless I loosen the oil cap or pull up on the dipstick.
Not sure I understand where these "Norma" connectors are located. Any diagrams?

Thanks

I think I found 3 "norma" connections with O-rings. One near the MAF, One where the snorkel tube from the MAF turns down by the throttle butterfly and another on the left front valve cover. All seem to be okay. Are there more?
I sprayed a little car cleaner around the engine while watching the STFTs and got no change until I sprayed at the area where the snorkel tube clamps on to the throttle body. The STFTs went up quite a bit and came back down so I thought I found a leak. I pulled off the tube and noticed the there is a rubber seal bonded to this plastic tube and figured it could be getting un sealed. Smeared a little black RTV (as a temporary test) around the outside of it and clamped it back on to see if anything changed and of course, I ran out of carb cleaner then but still noticed the LTFTs stayed around 17 to 19. Anything else around there that can leak? I checked the Norma connection there and it seems to have a good seal. The STFTs went up only when I sprayed behind the snorkel tube, not on either side not the front.

THanks
FYI, when I get the clicking sound from the left front foot well area, the STFTs got up to around 5 and slowlt return to a hover around 0 as they should

Update. On the left hand side (aka drivers side in the USA) of the throttle body, there are 2 rubber hoses that connect up to the throttle body and beneath them is a smaller corrugated looking line that looks like it has a quick connect fitting on it that goes around to the left side of the engine and descends to who know where.
Anyway, when I spray brake part cleaner around the area where this little corrugated hose is connected to the throttle body, my STFTs got negative to about 5 and then recover. Looks like I have a leak there
Anyone know what this hose and connection are?
THanks

That could be the part load breather from the front left cam cover. I recall that being broken on my 97 and I used a piece of brass tubing and some RTV to patch it rather than replace.

It looks like a lot of you are dropping off of this post.
Latest is that if I plug off the vent line from the throttle body, the LTFT numbers start to drop slowly.
I would like to replace the lines from the MAF to the throttle body and the one from the left cam cover to the throttle body but cant seem to find them available anywhere. Idea? Sources?
Also the line from the throttle body to the vent wherever that is.

fmertz
My Denso MAF which has been on this car for years does not have a number like that on it.
Also, where is a good source for O-rings? My local parts sources do not have anything close to what I have removed from the car.
Thanks

I usually start here and get the part numbers https://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/

A lot of the plastic can be replaced with rubber fuel line.

Thanks to RJ237 and woox4 for the answers. I guess one would have to figure out how to connect to something that uses a "Norma" connection using fuel lines. Not sure about that yet.
Most of these plastic hoses are obsolete and no reproductions anywhere. That is depressing as it sounds like there will be no way to keep these cars running one day.
I can get more parts for a 1969 XKE and a 2003 XK8. Seems wrong.
Terrys Jag is trying to find some for me.

Any way to tell which vapor canister system one has on a car? Every website shows 3 different options.
If I take off the line that goes from the throttle body to the vapor can, my LTFTs slow go down. That tells me I have something amiss there but since I do not know which one to get parts for......

As to making connections to a Norma socket, I have found that cleaning the socket with brake cleaner, etc. and then fitting a brass or copper tube with RTV or epoxy will work. It may not be elegant but it does work.

Okay, I took out the inner fender liner and found my purge valve and it was a rusty mess and definitely leaking. It was not the one some places were telling me it was. It is a Denso #2R83-9C915-AA.
Could not find a new one so got a used one from Coventry West for a bunch of money but at least I got it. Fixed a few leaks at Norma connectors.
LTFTs down to around 6 at idle versus over 19 before.
Not sure if they will ever be at 0 or if they should but the car is no longer sending codes. I guess I may some other smaller leaks but not sure.
Thanks to all who contributed to me getting off my butt and tackling this.
It upsets me though that so many parts are obsolete on a car that looks like new.
My Rant.
We make cars with engines that run forever, bodies that don't rust and then equip them with cheap plastic crap that is guaranteed to fail in about 10 years and no parts available to replace them. What's up with that?

That is simply the bean counters getting their way vs. the engineers. Yes indeed, the plastics and electronics in these cars are the two factors that are most likely to cause their eventual extinction....

+1

Two quotes come to mind:

"ENGINEER noun.[en-juh-neer] Someone who does precision guesswork based on unreliable data provided by those of questionable knowledge. See also wizard, magician."

"Never attribute to engineers that into which politicians, lawyers, accountants, and marketeers have poked their fingers."

It's somewhat different on the later cars, but I replaced all the convoluted plastic hose parts on the part-load breather with fuel line.
