Default P1384 VVT Solenoid error code

Last week had both chains and tensioners replaced after chain snapped, got the car back ran fine, but after about 5mls check engine light came on and code 1384 was found, car seems to run ok, a little ruff at idle with a slight tapping, no power loss at higher speeds. I did a hard reset but haven't gone far since as not sure if it should be driven far with this error
Most threads I have read seem to suggest an oil pressure issue, however since work was just done in that area is it possibly a timing issue. Reset code came back after about 2mls.
She has 150k on her and last oil change was just over 3k not sure what weight oil was used as it was the dealer who changed it last.
Any comments on this appreciated.

follow up to original post, since most posts on p1384 suggested oil issue I added some conditioner to oil to increase viscosity and erased codes, ran for 30 miles and no chech engine lite , however when I read codes 1384 was back ,but car ran great and idle was fine
Should I be overly concerned about the P1384 code

It's good practice to drop and clean out the sump if the tensioners are breaking up as the bits of plastic can fall into the sump and block the oil channels. This might explain a P1384 code.

I just had P1384 & P1396 show up today. I've only owned the 2002VDP for 29 days and it has been great until today. Lost some power then heard knocking sound, bummed!!! I'm worried that it is more than just needing a thicker oil since the knocking became loud so quickly. I am a new Jaguar owner, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum JZjaguar,

One thing is certain - if your Jaguar has a Vanden Plas badge, you do NOT have an XK8/XKR.

First essential is to identify your Model.

Thanks Graham,

I looked but couldn't find the VDP option so I chose the XJ8 as a description. I am sure as I become more familiar with this forum I will figure it out. Any help would be much appreciated.

I have a 2002 VDP V8, 130K miles, 3rd owner. No leaks, noises or dings, This thing is a beauty! I am just really bummed that within a month of buying her she has had what seems to me as heart failure!

JZjaguar,

Welcome to the forum but you would get more attention to your post if you were in the correct forum and started a new thread. Move over to the XJ8 forum and start over. This is the XK8 forum. Same running gear but lots of other differences.

It's an X308. Vanden Plas is a trim level (the best!). Here's the link to the X308 tech forum:
