Passive Arming?

Passive Arming?
Passive Arming is described in section 2-11 of my owners handbook as a part of the Security Systems options. Seems it has to be set up by a dealer - what's up with that?
It sounds like a perfect solution for a 'vert - automatically sets the alarm system after 30 seconds - but does not lock the car. I've never believed in locking a 'vert - just invites slashing the top.
Anyone know how to turn it on? Thanks in advance. DaleD

To be truthful, I can't find anyone at my dealership or local tech shop that knows either!
I found one old forum thread where "Real Tech" said something about a dealer setup using the onboard computer. I'd really like to have my XKR set up this way... Any advice? DaleD

My first Jag was a 93 xjs (a great car) that had an alarm system and like my 99 xk8 & 2000 s-type I had to set the alarm manually. I had the xjs in to have an additional remote added and they asked me if I wanted the Passive Arming activated and I elected to have that done and was very pleased with it. The one thing that car had that my others do not have is that I could turn the alarm system off using a toggle switch that was next to the key. Many would ask how important that is, well it is important when you are cleaning the car or unloading. I cannot recall for sure but if the trunk was open the alarm would set and begin clicking and the faster the click the closer the alarm was going to go off. I like the idea but to control on that car was a necessity. I hope this helps.
