Default Please help identifying an XK8

I live in Dubai and am looking at buying a second hand XK8.

The cars local documentation/registration and invoices from the Jag dealer state it is a 4.0l but it was first registered in 2004.

The manual side of the gear shifter only shows 5 gears not 6.

Entirely unconnected by a friend of mine was sold a brand new by three year old Mercedes by a dealer here so I am concerned this might be a 2002 that was never sold until 2004.

The VIN number is SAJAA41F752A41611

Is this a 4.2 or a 4.0?

Thanks

Our in house VIN decoder seems bust or can't cope with this VIN
You have a lowercase J but even correcting that different VIN decoders say the VIN is incorrect.

Gavnnik,
Something is not right here. Even though the VIN decoder is only approximate, the result anyway would ring alarm bells with me.

Someone else might be able to give a definitive answer but for what its worth, I would not go near it. If it does turn out to be bogus then the authorities should also be informed.

Enter a 17 digit (VIN) car number

It's probably nothing more sinister than a typo by the OP.

If so that is the 6 speed box so it will be post 2003.

Great thanks all.

It's one owner and a full service history so I'm comfortable with the vehicle.

One great thing here is you have to visit a centre, get a test done and transfer ownership there and then so getting a ringer or something like that is almost impossible.

Isn’t it because 6th gear is overdrive?

Yes, the numbers on the J Gate side indicate the highest gear that he box will select in each position.
So if you put it to 5 it will shift up to 5 and hold.
If you want it to go to six just select drive.
