Default pot hole damage

I ill need to take this to a specialist to be fixed, I also checked the other front wheel, it also had a very small high spot. I'll check the rears when I get round to it.

Sorry for the bad luck.

My now departed Audi A6 suffered a bent rim that was easily 1+ inches off where it struck the pothole at 75mph. Took it to a wheel repair place and for $150 USD it looked better than new. So good in fact, I had them refinish the other 3 so the car would look right.

Just be sure they check for internal structural damage. The metal can be fatigued and give up on you later down the road.

That rough.

Wheels can be straitened though and I have had reasonable luck with getting that done on a couple of occasions.

I once hit a ledge at about 50mph in my Mini (local construction company cut a chunk out of the road and left about a 2in lip). Bent two wheels and tweaked the strut tower. Plus I think a couple of my fillings fell out too.

I dropped it off at a shop this morning who can do this type of work.

£60 for the repair in Edinburgh, I also had another place quote me £42 but they were 20 miles away.

Excellent news! Glad you're back on the road again. They can do amazing things with wheels now.

Good result. it looked a serious bend in the rim.

I've seen this kind of repair mentioned from time to time by US members but didn't know it was available in the UK. Was the surface finish affected by the heating up required to make the aluminium maleable?

I asked to have a look at the machine, it was similar to the one in the video, basically a lathe with a couple of hydraulic pistons (it had be brought in from Turkey, perhaps they have a lot of pot holes there). They used a butane torch to do the heating rather than an oxy torch. It looked like they only did local heating as the repainted area was not much bigger than the dent itself.

They said they were very busy with BMW rims and were scathing of their wheel quality, and that they were the only shop with this capability in Edinburgh.
