Default Power Steering blew all its fluid

As I was leaving the house in my 98 coupe all was well. I stopped half way down the driveway to bring in the trash can then got back in the car and noticed a groan when I turned the wheel. I was on my way to an appointment so I put the car back in the garage and used another. I didn't see anything leaking. About an hour later my wife called to tell me there was clear oil all over the floor by the left front tire. When I returned the PS reservoir was empty confirming that it was PS fluid. It'll be towed to my indie guy on Tuesday morning. What's the most likely culprit and expected costs so I can ask the right questions? BTW, I picked up a bag of kitty litter on the way home that did a great job absorbing all the fluid from the epoxy floor.

About 4 yrs ago had a similar situation. It was the high pressure hose. Cost about $120 if you DYI. It was a PITA to fit the new hose.

Thanks for the info. I had to have the high pressure hose replaced once before about 5 years and only about 5K miles ago. I think it was about $300 installed - well worth it not to have to do the job myself. If that's what it is I'm surprised it failed again so soon but better than being something more serious. I'll post back tomorrow when I find out for sure.

I kinda of had this problem a month ago, and it turned out to be the power steering pump. The oil was leaking from the bottom of the pump, I believe the gasket blew. I bought a new one from NAPA auto for around $140, and the hose from the reservoir to the pump. The job was a little bit of a pain to get it off, but went back on better. Good luck

My mechanic just let me know it's the same problem. Leaking pump and dry rotted reservoir hose. He's putting it in today. The cost will be a lot higher but at my age I can't do that stuff anymore and even if I could, with 90 degree heat and matching humidity, fuhgettaboutit! He's doing a brake flush and front pads while it's there.
