Default power steering problem

hey guys,my 99 xk8 has been suffering lately.the past few weeks when started cold ,the steering is very very tight.later on in the day after several start stops it loosens up [normal].i drive it once or twice a week.i had a 95 chrysler LHS that had two stage steering,[easy at slow speed and tight at high speed].i assume my jag has the same setup, what could be the problem,a sensor getting ready to fail ?..steve.

more than likely the power steering fluid has lost some viscosity due to age. Cold it is more difficult to flow thru the lines, warming it up naturally improves its fluid properties. Its well worth a flush/fill, then see if there's anything else amis. While you're at it, brake fluid should be done as well, if you haven't already.

I had a car that behaved the same when the power steering fluid got low one time. Must be when it warmed up it expanded and filled some of the missing volume. That was until the pump went all together. Not sure if it went due to lack of fluid, or fluid was leaking from pump...
