Default Preferred Tire Brand

Time to replace the tires on my 06 XKR.
Came with Pirelli when I purchased it this summer.
May consider Michelin this time.

What is the board's opinion on best tire brand for wear and ride?

I've been extremely happy with the set of Yokohama YK580 tires I had installed on my wife's 2006 XK8 in 2012. Great wet-weather handling, great stopping power, great ride, low noise levels, and they're pushing 39,000 miles now with plenty more miles left in them. Significantly less costly than the Michelin equivalent and a better treadwear warranty, too. Available only at Discount Tire / America's Tire....

This car always stays home whenever the snow flies so I cannot speak to how they do in snowy/icy conditions....

hello, I had Michelin PILOT Sport A/S they were directional tires.
These tires had a radial pull that made my car pull to the right. Tried 2 alignmentS TO NO AVAIL.

I WENT BACK TO DISCOUNT TIRES AND TALKED WITH THEM, WE TRIED SWAPPING THE FRONT TIRES AND RE MOUNTING ON OPPOSITE SIDE, NO BETTER.

I ENDED UP BUYING NEW tIRES . WENT WITH MICHELIN PILOT SPORT A/S 3. THESE TIRES ARE FAIRLY NEW TECHNOLOGY, BUT MAIN THING IS NON DIRECTIONAL.

THEY ARE GREAT...

SOLVED THE PULL TO THE RIGHT AND ARE MUCH SOFTER FEEL BUT STILL HAVE A 45000 MILE WARRANTY. THEY RIDE VIRTUALLY SILENT AND HAVE GOOD ROAD FEEL.
AT THIS POINT I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE
MICHELIN PILOT SPORT A/S 3 TIRES.

AND THANKS TO DISCOUNT TIRE FOR A DEEP DISCOUNT ON MY NEW TIRES, THE OTHERS ONLY HAD 10,000 ON THEM SO WERE NOT NEW BUT I NOW HAVE BRAND NEW SET TIRES ON CAR AT VERY GOOD PRICE.
DISCOUNT TIRES IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS. PERIOD.
GREAT PEOPLE, GREAT COMPANY.

AND REMEMBER
HAPPY MOTORING...

I used to drop 4-figures on Michelins every few years, but after favorable comments from Paul Pavlik, I decided to try the General G-MAX AS-03.

These don't get a lot of attention, but I'm very happy with them. Reasonably priced.

I have the MICHELIN PILOT SPORT A/S 3 on my Miata and absolutely love them. When the Jag needs new shoes this will be my choice.

I have Michelin A/S 3s on my XKR and I can't stand them. Of course, my XKR has 508 HP more than any miata.
I can't get grip from a dead stop, I can't get grip for a rolling start, I can't get grip around any corner. I talked directly to Michelin and they told me to go do an authorized dealer and they'd make right.... the DEALER said Michelin are junk, but I was offered 50% off ANY set of Michelin tires as compensation. No thanks, I wouldn't take them for free if I was stranded in a desert with four flats.

Either Pirelli or Yokohama next time for me.

+1 on the Michelin A/S 3 tires.

Extremely quiet, plus handling and wearing incredibly well so far.

Worth the money for sure.

Having just purchased my XK, I can't comment directly on which tires will perform best on it. However, on a previous Porsche I liked Conti Extreme Contact DWS, because they were the best compromise for my needs. They handled reasonably well in the dry, and quite well in the wet and light snow. Also, very long tread life, which may or may not matter to you. Rode well, though a little noisier than some. Available in XK sizes, and reasonably priced.

Every tire will be a compromise of competing demands, so your demands are what matter. Suggest you review comparison tests, and reviews, on Tire Rack to help figure out what will work best for you.

Cheers, Mark

Regarding Michelin's warranty, if you have different sizes on your Jaguar front-to-rear (staggered sizes), please note that their mileage warranty is reduced by half the normal miles, supposedly since they cannot be rotated.
I had bought two new Michelin Pilots on my other car, a Cadillac STS, and both had belts slip in less than 15,000 miles. Michelin at first did not want to honor the warranty at all, but, fortunately, I had a very helpful car dealer go to bat for me and Michelin finally discounted a new pair of tires.
I'll not be buying Michelins again.

MINUS 8,937,388.6 on the Michelin A/S 3, worst tires I have ever had. Ever. In the entire history of eternity.
Besides all that;
ETexJag, you live in Texas. There is no reason whatsoever to buy All Season tires (A/S). Summer tires are good for summer and Winter tires are good for Winter. All Season tires are good for absolutely nothing. They are a poor compromise in the hot and dry and a poor compromise in the cold, wet and icy. Absolute junk tires.

If wear and ride are your priorities, look no further than the Falken Azenis PT722. I have almost 55K on the rears and they're not even close to being worn out. Unbelievable. They're much quieter than the tires they replaced, but the car did come with worn out winter sneakers. I have 18" wheels, so even with the sport suspension the ride is great. I run 40psi and get 26 to 29 mpg on the highway.

Oh, .... and BTW: They're cheaper than almost all of the other alternatives (MUCH cheaper than many).

I have had two sets of Nexen 3000's on my 2002XKR, very satisfied with ride, handling, and wear.
Price was quite reasonable at about $150/ea including mounting and balancing.

I have Hankooks on my 2010XKR and hate them as they transmit so much road noise on the freeway that you need headphones.

Wow. The Hankooks are really that bad? I can't/won't tolerate noisy tires. (Probably why I've never owned a Jeep or SUV).

I swapped out hard Riding Perelli P0's for Continental Extreme Contacts. I have 20" BBS wheels and the sidewalls are really low but the conti's give me a good ride and perform well.
