Default problem unlocking car

Ok - I've looked through the how to's and searched but did not find any info on this problem

The car did not come with a key fob so I have to lock/unlock manually. For the past several days, the key is difficult to turn when unlocking. Locking operates smoothly, but when unlocking I have to try 3 or 4 times before it will engage and unlock.

Wondering if I shot some WD-40 or liquid graphite in the mechanism if that would help. Any thoughts

I think it is an electrical connection, the key operates a lever connected to a micro switch in the lock assembly which in turn controls a servo. However I could be wrong, someone more knowledgable will chime in. Trying to remember from when I had my door lock apart replacing the micro switch that controls the signal to the door control module for the windows, courtesy lights etc.. There are three separate switches in the door lock assembly and I think one of them handles the locking signal.

You say it's difficult to turn, maybe a little WD40 would help.

WD40 is not a good choice, it gets gummy. There are specific lubricants for locks, and graphite is good, but can be messy when it's on the key.

Hey ! Why fool around when you can pick up a brand new (not Jag.) key fob for peanuts.I tried to get one from my local Jag dealer..no luck. They say Jag does not make them any more for model years before 2006.
I was able to purchase a brand new Ford unit CWTWB1U331 for $45 cdn from a local auto locksmith, including programing. Works great !
