I just bought two new key fobs off of eBay and got many, many different ways to program them. First the eBay seller stated that it must be programmed by the Jaguar Dealer or high tech locksmith. Made appointment at Jaguar Dealer to program them for $135.00 which later I cancelled because you can do it yourself. Searched this forum and got several different ways to program them. Here is what I learned today. If the FCC # is the same as the original, then you can program them, NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE ELSE STATES. The eBay seller stated that I got the wrong key fobs and told me to send them back and he would send me the right ones and charge me more.

My FCC ID is CWTWB1U322. My original key fob part # LJE2610-AB, but the eBay seller sold me key fob part # XR83-15K601-AA. The FCC ID # is the Manufacturer part # and the key fob # is the ignition system part type. On this forum I found a programing procedure that worked for my original key fob LJE2610-AB, but it would not work for my new key fobs part # XR83-15K601-AA. I finally found a UK website that had a slightly different programming procedure and IT WORKED. BOTH KEY FOBS WORK GREAT AND AT A GREAT DISTANCE.

No one with a 1997-2006 Jaguar XK8 should have to pay for programming their remote key fob. Here is the UK procedure.


Jaguar XK8 remote programming

Key in ignition without turning to any position.

Hold turn signal in the flash to pass position, pulled towards you.

Turn key one position (aux) while holding the turn signal handle towards you.

Flash the turn signal handle towards you 4 or 5 times and you should hear a confirmation "chirp" from the security sounder. Also the security light next to the park shift lever will flash on.

After the chirp press all the buttons one at a time on the remote you wish to program listening for the chirp after each press, or a different sounding error tone meaning the programming didn't work.

 

It's very easy. Takes about a minute. When I bought my Jag last year the original owner only had 1 Key and no fobs at all. I found 2 with the correct number and did them. I also found a locksmith who could cut and program a tibbe key for me for 175 so I could have a spare. So the the fobs where found on ebay and I think I paid about 50 for both of them. My dealer here in St. Louis wanted around 900 for the key and fobs and programming. Glad to see you got them up and running.

 

i ordered two fobs said they where for a 1999 i do not have one to compare to . does it really matter the number on the key fob as long as it is for that year and model

 

Yes, it does. There were at least 2 part numbers for '99 so you stand a 50% chance of getting the correct ones. Better solution is to ask a dealer to identify the correct part numbers based on your VIN.

 

This did not work for my 1997 XK8 the chirp sound never comes and fobs did not get programmed.

 

Mine doesn't chirp, just a little red light as above. You can't see it in daylight!

 

On my 1997 xk8 that does not seem to work either. No security light comes on. I'm still trying other solutions. But so far my old fob works with the replaced rubber buttons, after i cleaned all connections with alcohol and q tips.

 

I have two fobs with different part numbers. I programmed them both and they work perfectly.

 

How did you program them? I have tried everything on this thread and they don't work, like I said I have a 1997 XK8 conv. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

 

I have a '98 XJ8. Purchased fob, made sure # were correct for this car (seller had to replace the one he sent me). I go thru the sequence with the car, get the light then the beep, but I cannot get the fob to link with the car. I get no beep, or anything when I push the buttons...any of them. I checked with an auto parts store & their machine said my fob is sending a signal. Any ideas? Thanks...Bob

 

Are you sure this works with early XK8's? Free Keyless Remote Fob Entry programming instructions, procedures for all automotive vehicles only has instructions for 2001-2006.

 

OK I got the remote I bought on Ebay to work on my '97 with these instructions:

Put key in ignition.

Hold headlight flasher back.

Turn ignition key to position 1.

Release headlight flasher and flash headlights 4 times (approximatly). Alarm will enter programming mode. This will be confirmed by a flashing led on gearshift.

Program each transmitter (up to 5) by pressing the lock or unlock button on each transmitter so that the total number of presses equal 5. The led will flash when you press the transmitter button. In other words, the led must flash 5 times to complete the programming. Therefore, if you are only programming one transmitter you should press the lock or unlock button on that transmitter 5 times. If you are programming two transmitters you will press the first transmitter twice, and three times on the second one. For five transmitters you will operate each transmitter once.

 

Just programmed a fob from ebay, its a late 2002 UK car, could only get it to work with the drivers door open, no beeps, just flashes from the Jgate.

 

Just got my $25.00 E-bay remote fob....since my 2001 XK8 only came with one and a key....followed your programming instructions and it worked like a champ. Thank you. I'm loving tinkering with my new baby....this forum is a wealth of knowledge and info. Thank you all for the info and patience you senior members have with us newbies.
I swear the JAG designers spent years in pubs with a good buzz on giggling about how to screw with owners heads on how to program,fix and maintain these mechanical beauties. I'm waiting for the : bonnet open,foot on the brake,flashers on for 5 seconds,key in right front pocket and radio on am 510 to program the lug nut removal procedure....and the irony is....I'll do it coz I love me some kitty cat....lol. Good day gents,and ladies...I'm on to the next XK8 adventure...Newbie Tony...an English/American.

Thanks Jaguar Forums. I read about making sure that the remote you buy has a matching FCC ID. I bought one with the matching ID from EBAY (the vendors are smart, you can search by the FCC ID alone and get the correct remote). OK so far, $50.

Then I followed Linda's instructions above (flash the high beams, lower the left rear window half-way, turn on the windshield wipers and before the blades reach 45 degrees pop the fuel filler door while releasing the hood (bonnet) and illuminating the passenger side vanity mirror lights). OK, you know I'm kidding. Follow the instructions and the $50 e-bay remote is mated to the kitty. The funny part is my e-bay remote works the first time I push any button. The remote I got when I bought my old car seems to have no problem with distance, but I need to push the buttons from 8 to 10 times before I get a reaction. The trunk release works fine, btw.

OK , I have a question that will fit in this topic. I have a 2003 XJ8. I just got it a week ago and I need to get a 2nd remote for the wife. I see them all over Ebay... they look like my remote and the seller says it will work , but the numbers on the back are not the same. The FCCID # 's and the CAN# are a match. But the number above that (LJE2610-AB on mine) do not match. Will a remote with a top number of XR83-15K601-AA work with my car. Also , I noticed when you unlock the car with my remote , it makes the driver seat move to Memory Seat Position #2. Something special to look for in a remote if I want if I want to control Position #1. Or is that all in how you program the fobs?

There's two things you need to watch out for when sourcing spare remotes:

1. the correct frequency (US and Europe operate on different frequencies)
2. matching LJE code - all of it

As an example, the LJE2610-BB remote from my 2001 XK8 does NOT pair with my 2005 which uses an LJE2610-BC

I picked up another remote with all the same codes on the back. Followed the instructions at the top of the page and now I have two working remotes. FYI the first remote that i programed works Memory seat #3 and the second remote works Memory seat #1 ?? dont know how that came about , but it works for my needs!
