Programming 1997-2006 Jaguar XK8 remote key fob
Hi All,
Also reprogrammed my remote using the instructions. It all works fine, i get the beep, then i program all buttons. Everything works fine. Thing is after 2-3 hours the remote goes dead and i need to reprogram it again. The batteries are new. Any ideas why?
Thank you

Sadly the reprogramming instructions posted here for the 1997 XK8 key fob did not work since the part numbers and FCC numbers on the back of mine were not the same as those quoted. But here is what did work with the numbers on the back of the fob as listed below. Maybe this will help others. Please don't laugh as these instructions are bizarre but effective. Replace the fob's batteries with fresh ones and make sure the polarity is right (positive sides down).
Key Fob # LJA 2610 AA, 315MHz, FCC ID: K8597T315
1. Open boot lid and leave open.
2. Open driver's door and leave open
3. Turn the key in the ignition to On but do not start the engine.
4. Push the valet button 5 times relatively slowly. It is supposed to sound a "chirp" but mine did not. Perhaps my "chirper" is defective as it has never chirped.
5. Push the Lock button on the remote once
6. Push the Valet button once again. That should set up so that reprograming a second remote will be possible, but I only have one remote so I skipped this part..
7. Turn off the key and close the boot lid and door.
8. Try locking the car.
By golly, it worked!

I tried the instructions below; everything works (unlock, trunk, lights) but not lock. It locks / unlocks and the alarm goes off. Tried repeating the procedure several times.
Any ideas ?
Any ideas ?
I had to modify the tried and true instructions in order to get a new remote to work.
The post referenced below outlines what I had to do to get my new 2nd remote to work. A month later it's still working fine

Z,
Thanks for your response but no luck here.. Same result - everything works except LOCK. It locks / unlocks / alarms. I tried discon the battery and repeating, same.
So.. I ordered a used OEM fob. That better work! Thanks again -

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but it may be apropos on Easter weekend. Just programmed the cheapest fob I could find on ebay, it worked as stated in post number one, noting the driver door must be open. After programming my new remote, the OEM remote stopped. So I did it again, this time pressing all the buttons on BOTH remote fobs. On my 2004 Jag I heard both the confirmation chirp and see the red security light next to the shifter. Thank you to all who verify it is easy to self-program with no need to visit the dealers.
Next step is to cut the tibbe key at a locksmith, unless there is a better idea.

Hi, old post with a lot of usefull informations, but, saddly in my case, it does not help.
My car is a 2006 XKR, probably manufactured in 2005 but registered in 2006 ; anyway one of the very last X100.
I tried to start the car but battery was so low it could'nt start. (Car was not locked, maybe it's a clue...)
Dunno why the battery was low because it is a recent one, but the car seems to drain the battery if I don't use it once in a while. (alarm and stuff...)
I then started the car with a booster and let it charged for a while.
Problem : My 2 remote fobs are now totally dead. They are genuine ones and they were perfectly fine the last time I started the car (october ?)
I changed the CR2032 battery with brand new ones (not the cheap ones btw), I cleaned the remote control contacts as well.
I did the entire procedure to try a new remote fob programming :
-Full Beam while contact Off
-then turn the key to accessory position,
-4 times Flashing main beam,
-- I ear the programming "beep" and I see the red LED flicking one time,
-- Then I press 3 times on the first remote button, then 2 times on the second one. (to program the 2 fobs)
When I press on the buttons, it makes no noises at all, no flashes on the Led as well
Then, about 20 or 30 seconds later, all I can ear are two sound signals and that's all.
I tried with doors closed, and open, ... nothing works.
I did an electronic reset using the battery cables. Nothing.
I looked at the Security Locking Module located near the battery. Everything looks clean and normal.
I've read that on late models, the procedure is different (from 2003 models I believe)
Do you please tell me what exact procedure should I follow ?
Thanks,
Antonin
