Default Protective tape in the gear selector

Hi

As i'm sure your all aware Jaguar put a strip of protective soft finish in the J gate that stops the gear stick/ selector from rubbing metal on metal.

Mine has started to come away on the right between Park & Drive.

I wondered if anyone else had already found a solution?

regards

The other 61 Viewers so far are saying nothing but I'll admit I wasn't aware!

Haven't got an XK8 any longer to be able to check but is this the Illumination Module Gasket? If so, it's not illustrated in the Parts Catalogue but there is a P/N for it:

I assume you are talking about the rubber gasket. I was able to repair mine with a few drops of super glue. It had split & was flapping about. When I changed gears it would get hung up on the shifter. The super glue put it back in its place just fine.

I don't normally respond to questions without a MY but here is an old TSB for this fault.

Did the author of the TSB actually try the job?

Open the hood and place covers over the fenders.

Perhaps he was looking for the battery cover ......

2. Remove battery cover and disconnect battery.

I know lots of people who author procedures without doing the job, they are called engineers.

then i'll have to go with engineer because the battery is in the trunk,

and the fender covers happen as #3 after battery disconnect as #2

3. Open the hood and place covers over the fenders.

all good fodder for the cannon when it is claimed here that Jaguar engineers could not possibly be wrong and are as infallabile as a religious deity.

sorry about the late responce but I visited a british hospital and caught a virus there!

This TSB is exactly what I needed thanks. While im in there i'll replace a failed back lighting lamp.

Also isn't my model year shown on my signature? If not i'll do it again.

thanks

Bob, is there an old TSB about the shift module cover cracking and a replacement part #? I know a few of us have had the crack at the 6 o'clock position between D and 4.

There is no Bulletin for breaking your Selector Lever Illumination Module!!!!

If there was it would probably recommend less forceful gear engagement.
