Purolator Oil Filter

Purolator Oil Filter
I have been watching this for awhile on my 05XJ8 and 06XKR but I finally determined that the standard Purolator oil filter does not fit the 4.2 engine correctly. Every filter I have installed has been found leaking at the change time. I have figured out that the metal screw threads are too close to the engine mounting area and the filter will not tighten properly. Be careful using these filters. I have thrown mine away.

I had that same problem on a '94 Honda Prelude. Except is was a Fram oil filter. The one called for in frams book would contact metal to metal before the seal would contact the flat surface. The odd thing is, they made one that fit perfectly, but that is not the one listed for the car in their book. Morale to the story, Don't believe everything you read, I guess.

It is interesting that the filter locations are different on the 05XJ8 and the 06XKR, but the filter spec is the same in the Purolator book. I did buy some Purolator filters where one of them with the same number was longer and made in Germany where the rest were made here, it was a differently made filter but was the same fit. Most of them are the shorter small ones though. I will be using the Jag filters from now on, just don't want problems. I was using Purolator because they were easy to find and I never had problems before, now I can't say that.

Jaguar filter = Motorcraft Filter = Purolator One filter
I did a bunch of research floating all over the web one day and discovered that the Motorcraft filters are all made by Purolator. Ford told them that they wanted there Purolator one filter but with a longer life element that had to flow the same and filter the same as the off the shelf Purolator One filter.
As far as i can tell from tareing down a Jag and a Ford filter they are the same. Just order up the corresponding year LS or Thunderbird Motorcraft filter for your car and you get the same filter as the Jag filter for half the cost. Just no Leaping Kitty on the filter.
I have used Motorcraft filters on all of my cars sense the day i purchased any of them and have never had any oil leeks.
Just my $.02

Huh, I have been using Purolator for years on my jags. From memory its something like 15383 or something like that. In the book at Advance auto its the same filter for my '98 XK8 and my '05 XKR. So far, I haven't had any problem with either. I probably changed the oil in the 8 about 8-10 times and in the R about 2 or 3 so far (I don't put too many miles on
