Quarter Windows
Hello
First let me say that this problem started the other day. I had left the top down for a month or so with car parked in my garage. When I took it to a shop to have them do a repair I could not get the top to go up so I brought the vehicle back home. it looked like the fluid was low so I filled that so it was in between the lines still nothing the pump motor kicks on it builds pressure as I can turn the reliever valve and I can hear the fluid. Anyway I gave up on that for now and put the top up manually but the quarter windows wont go up even know I have the top latched. is there any way to manually raise those windows or some procedure to raise them then you have to manually raise the top.
This is a 1999 XK8 Convertible. I was on this forum previously but some how lost my registration maybe because I haven't posted in a while.
Thanks
Kris

Disclaimer: I’m fairly new to the XK8 but have done a lot of (successful) work on mine.
In your situation I would lower the top manually and close the latch above the windshield. Since the quarter windows are down this puts the top into it’s normal down condition. Close the valve at the hydraulic reservoir.
Then reset the top by holding the top down switch until you hear a click.
Hope this solves your problem - Good Luck

Thanks I tried this just now same result My guess is I have a bad solenoid that operates the latch as that never moves. but I still want to get it to close those quarter windows if possible. until i get a new pump or solenoids.
Kriskeith,
I had a lot of trouble with the top when I first got my car. Are you familiar with jumping relays?
Check out this old Youtube video.

The relays for the rear quarter windows are in the trunk fuse box and are the smaller relays.

Now that I have a way to lo up the car completely incase of rain while I'm out. does anyone know what the part number of the solenoids on top of the hydraulic pump are for the convertible top. I can buy another used supposedly tested pump or a rebuilt pump. but I have to think these solenoids can be found somewhere or else how is this company rebuilding these pumps. unless they are just harvesting parts from a junk yard.
