Did Jag use two different types of hose connections to the valve body? I sent one in to Top Hydraulics and it came back like this:
I can't for the life of me remember if the fittings were like that on the unit I sent in or not. I planned to install it today, and the one in the car has threaded fittings like this:
I think the hoses in my car are original, and the leak appeared to be coming from the leftmost hose connection. I replaced the o-rings on the hose fitting and that seems to have resolved the problem, at least for a half dozen or so top cycles.
Anyway, back to the question - did Top Hydraulics send me incorrect fittings? Or was there a change made to the valve body and hoses over the years?
I have three top hydraulic cylinders and just got a resealed one from TOP HYDRAULICS today!
I keep two good/used but wanted to send a LEAKING ONE to TH for the wife's car
I sent it several weeks ago but it is for my wife's car so it was not urgent.
BOTH connectors should point upwards slightly to clear the header frame so the hex nuts can be accessed.
The one farthest from the 'piston' or ram looks straight and it should be slightly angled like the forward one for hex nut access.
The elbow connections should be male fittings on both ends - it's not clear from your picture whether they have put caps on top to perhaps prevent leaking in transit. Anyway, the TH replacement I received was the same as the one I sent in (after the replacement). Did you order replacement hose from TH at the same time? If so check they mate with the latch cylinder. Mine is a 2003 and they were male both ends.

That's what I thought. These are definitely female. I have been emailing with Top Hydraulics and they sent back the fittings I sent, so I guess somebody changed over these before I bought the latch cylinder as a spare. My plan was to have the spare rebuilt and swap it in for my leaky one to reduce downtime. Guess I didn't know what I was buying.
Could be that someone implemented a repair that didn't involve taking out the interior (I've heard that it's possible) - in your case though, with the cylinder you have had repaired, I would just swap over the fittings while you change them over (with appropriate sealant) rather than sending them back to TH for them to execute a 5 minute job. Anyway, good luck with the swap - take your time would be my advice. I did end up with an airbag warning and the seat module on the passenger side needed repair (even though not disturbed during my replacement of all hoses) - the warning went away after a couple of ignition cycles.
I see the incorrect fittings now. I did not notice that at first.
If you need the correct male angled ones, I have a few extras. I worked at the dealer and I don't remember where I got them?
Send me an address and I can post them to you.(USPS)
