Default question about oil

Have a new old 2003 XK8 that needs a oil change and has 116,000 miles. was wondering if it is a ford engine and if it can take Valvoline high mileage synthetic oil.

It's not a Ford engine. It's Jaguar's. Easiest is to use an oil meeting jag's spec.

the high mileage oils seem to be best suited not when you cannot maintain specified oil pressures over the operating range but have excessive consumption. i have never seen these products help with oil consumption on a consistent basis outside of worn oil control rings.

are your pressures correct at all times and is your oil consumption reasonable? if both are yes, including a quart or so every 3000 US miles, continue to use normal specified oils.

better filters have a definite benefit and many manufacturers actually specify them to be replaced every other oil change, such as my 2008 Honda. purchase a good one with a glass core and there is no problem keeping it on every other change for a nice savings. abrasive grit from improper air filtering, air leaks and dirt in the oil from all causes is more of a problem than old or standard oil.
