Default Question on general compatibility between years

Hey all! Happy Saturday.

I am looking at picking up a parts car to use for my 2005 XKR

The donor is a 1997 XK8. It loooooks very very similar, but how different should I expect it to be? I'll need quite a bit of the interior, as well as some J gate mechanisms. I know the J gate is going to be from the 5 speed, and I have the 6, but I'm seeing that a lot of the electrical components are the same. Unless I'm looking at the wrong things, which is very possible lol

The car is right in my backyard, same color interior, I'd hate to let it pass by if I can actually get good use from it. My next option is buying one from an insurance auction and having it shipped to me, for significantly more money.

Thanks in advance!

The selector lever illumination modules are DIFFERENT between the different gearboxes. They are not compatible between ZF 5HP24, ZF 6HP26 and W5A580.

The part numbers are different and the electronic/circuit boards are not compatible with mix/match.
The SPORT SWITCHES are also different between gearboxes.

Jaguar made improvements every year. I have a 97 and a 2005, they are substantially different.

anything electrical is going to be a struggle to achieve any compatibility.

A partscar is gold, no matter how you look at it. I "atomized" an old 98 Daimler so i have boxes of nuts, bolts, screws, brackets, relays, fuseboxes, plastic bits and trims, airbags, switches, instruments and column stalks etc... its an exellent help when i see that a scew is missing or corroded or just something is put togeather in a shitty way by a previus owner.

Remember that "bits and pieces" are the hardest to get your hands on.. Headlights for example cost a fortune, taillights are also expensive.. Sun visors.. you will for sure brake one of them when trying to fix the sloppy lid on the vanity mirror... etc.

My XK is an 2003, and i lhave learned the hard way that it differ from a 2002 and earler.. But a nice, complete parts car would have saved me some money and headace..

Do a proper inventory on what you actually think you need from a parts car, and what could be "nice to have". What do you think might happen? A fenderbender.. someone reversing in to you or smash open a door in to your side??

/E
