Question on OBDII SCANNER
I know that the cheaper scanners don't read faults with the abs and some of the other systems. My question is will they reset the faults even though they don't read them. Can't really afford to spend allot on a scanner.
Pork: I believe I bought mine at O'Reilly's auto supply 8 years ago for about $200. It reads the jag codes, and clears the faults, and I haven't even updated the software. So, you should be able to find one easily.
Take a look at this OBD list and see what it has to offer then post your question OBDII Code Scanners ** Member Approved ** - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
I have looked at the list many times in the past and spent may hours searching for the answers. I don't just post without looking. It is on the list but same question. It will read lots of the faults but not all of them. Its on the list but as mentioned in the forum in other places you have to spend 500 to get one that does everything. SO my original question is legitimate. Even though it won't do everything such as abs will it clear all faults including abs faults.
I would think that any OBD reader that can see the code should be able to clear the code. For me a reader to see all the codes I want will cost $500+ a reader for just “P” codes is around $35 to $200. If I need ABS codes I can go to my local garage who has the equipment to read “C” & “B” & “U” codes and pay him a few dollars to pull and clear the codes.
If you have an old XP laptop you can watch for a used VCM on eBay (not a Chinese knock-off.) Then buy IDS software for ~$50 on eBay. That way you'll have what the dealer uses. Down side is it won't work with every other car, like an aftermarket scanner, but it will be 'native'.
Thanks Beav for that info. I will take a look but I just went out to go somewhere and magically the fault I had last night, abs and stability control is gone without doing anything. Didn't think those faults would reset themselves. I did order a hand held scantool. Something I have always wanted anyway.

Type VCM into an eBay search box and you'll see a couple dozen - usually. Native is always better than global, no matter what brand. Whether or not it's $500 or so better is a matter of opinion. The VCM basically acts as a translator between the vehicle and the laptop and is Ford's native tool.
