Radiator fluid change?

Default Radiator fluid change?

Had the radiator fluids changed when I had all the tensioner/water pump work done to my car at 72k, 2 years ago. I thought manual said it should be changed every 4 years. We are putting about 5-7k on it a year. SHould I wait another 2 years before changing fluids? It is still nice and green.

What does the label on the top of the coolant reservoir say? Mine says orange.

Many, many post on coolant. Just do a search. Most of the current extended period coolants are specified as good for 100k miles and/or 5 years.

You will have to become familiar with terms like OAT and HOAT to explain this subject. See Coolant - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mileage has no/little effect on coolant. The thermal protection of antifreeze doesn't disintegrate, however it's corrosion package does. Potential damage from disimilar metals, pH, electrolysis, etc. is thwarted by powdered, sacrificial metals in the mix. Uncertain of Jag's recommendation but typically most OEMs recommend two year intervals.

Green. My car has the rad fluid in it that is green.

I should have said most OEMs recommend two year intervals for green coolant.

Check your manual for what coolant is supposed to be used in your car. Specific coolants require specific parts be used, incorrect coolants used with those parts can cause damage or reduced life of components. Definitely do NOT mix coolants, I've seen that happen more than a couple times - the coolant(s) will gel into a mess. If you find that you need a different coolant you need to completely flush the old coolant out until it runs clear, then refill with the correct coolant.

good god after reading those threads I have a headache. I think I may just drink a butt load of Mountain Dew and pee in the radiator the next time I flush it. What do I have to lose. Least my fluids will be natural. HA HA HA
