Default Rapid battery drain - ammeter and oil press red lights on

light on with ignition switch off and key out
1. new battery within last year
2. battery discharges within 5-6 hours after charging
3. red warning light on on ammeter and oil press when key is not in ignition

Saw some threads about bad ignition switches - mine seems to click through each position well

Any wisdom?????

Key out, drivers door open, does chime sound (like you left keys in ignition)? Oftentimes the flap that covers key hole gets stuck up. Car thinks keys in ignition, battery drains. Happened to me last week.

This is 1 of many possibilities, just getting things evaluated and eliminated with you.

Apologize for not being more thorough before posting. Double checked the positive and negative terminals of the battery - all I did was touch the negative braid that is grounded to the frame and the trunk lights came on - not sure if it is the battery side or frame attach point but will be removing and cleaning both.

Best still check the battery drain - should be about approx. 150mA - when car is asleep which typically takes 15min - you need the trunk open to check it.
