Question Re-chrome wheels or replace?

The XKR I bought a few weeks ago has rust pitting on the chrome Jag-badged rims. I was thinking to get them re-chromed but have no experience about the subject. They are 18" rims...from an 02 XKR. Any idea of typical costs, time to get them back, etc...? I live in the Southern Seattle WA area. I emailed a Seattle chroming company but they were less than cooperative or informative. Maybe there are 'exchange' deals? Happy Chrsitmas to all!! Eddie

In think they will only do that if the wheels have never been chromed, refinished or reconditioned. Check the ads to be sure.

Don't discount the possibility of polishing out the rust on those wheels. I have seen some rusted chrome surfaces that looked hopeless that responded to an aggressive polishing.

If you are interested in upgrading to 20" wheels I have a set of BBS Perseus wheels & tires from a 2006 Victory Edition XKR. They will bolt right on.

I used to work in the wheel industry, stripping and re-chroming is going to be almost as expensive as buying wheels on ebay. If you live near salt water (Seattle) the chrome will start to peel after a while anyway.
My suggestion, get a new set of wheels, non chromed, and sell the ones you have before they get too bad.
(I have a set of Pentas chromed off my XJR they are unusable due to living in Socal at the beach

THANKS to all who responded so fast!! WOW!! What a great forum!
I will try to get someone to see if it is possible to just sand down the rust spots and repolish (if possible)... aand I also like the idea of possible switching over to 20"-ers... Doesn't that change the speedo calibration? Is there any modifications needed so they do scrape on the inside of the mud-guards (fenders to you Yanks)? (smile) Am on a steep learning curve. JgaXkr...send me a private email... ae7ae (a-t) pacific-dxers (d-o-t) com. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
