check your ground wire (black). a common problem.
Here's a link for a fix.

Hi-New Memeber, trying to diagnois rear brake lights issue on my '97 XK8,I have read of 2 possible fixes-brake light switch under pedal and bad ground.Confused because brake lights do not work at all when key is NOT in ignition, with key in aux or car running the "dummy light"(3rd light) works as do 1 of 2 brake light bulbs in each lighting harness. The same bulb is not working in each bulb harness(if looking down into trunk its the inner most bulb on lower row,all the other bulbs in their respective harness are working as should)Also cant figure out how to post this question in my own thread..

goblue97xk8 - If it is the inner most on the bottom row - the rear fog light - should be a button on center console to turn them on
