Default Ready for the Road

So…1997 XK8… 8 days and no leaks, drips, errors(dash lights). Finally. Sunny , warm day on Sunday(70+ degrees F). Planets in alignment. Put the top down(car’s), and drove on I-80E towards Nevada. Looked around carefully, nice long easy stretch of highway. Punched her up to 100mph. Smooth as silk power. Exhilarating! Of course, dropped her back down to 75mph . Car is red, attracts a lot of attention. Drove a total of 2 hours.
Sigh of relief.

John, I can see the Sierra Nevadas from here, snow. Haven’t driven in ice/snow for years(actually, Tennessee, had snow tires AND chains). But in California, you get a bit of every climate, from ocean to mountain to desert. Challenging drives. Come on out.

Truth is I was stunned how well these cars do in light snow. That traction control really pays off (or is that I was comparing to my previous Jag, an XK6 - It pretty much had the traction of a hockey puck :-).

Hopefully I'll get out your way someday soon. Its been years, take care.

John

Sounds like you are living the 'Good Life', even in California...

you are right. With decent 4 season tires the snow traction is surprisingly good.

in fact, my first drive in an X-100 series car was when I purchased it in a very snowy Des Moines, Iowa some 4 + years ago. I drove a rental SUV up to Iowa hoping the XKR was all the seller said it was. After a brief inspection I paid the man and took off for a 450 mile trip back to Oklahoma.

The highways and secondary roads were all snow packed all the way back home, but the car never gave a bit of trouble .
