I knew the British and the Germans haven't totally got along over the years, but in war, it is always the innocent bystanders that get hurt the worst.
This appears to have been done vindictively and on purpose:
When the Trans fill plug is backed out, it bottoms on the Cat? Really? this can't be the actual trans fill plug. There has to be another trans fill plug under here I just can't find, right?
And then later with the motor running and the Cat heading to 1100 degrees, I'm supposed to put this plug back in without cross threading a steel plug in an Aluminum Transmission? Really? This has to be a joke, right?
A dimple in the cat, moving the cat outward 1", a shorter trans fill plug, a shorter boss... there has to be hundreds of ways this could have been done better, but it appears it was done this way on purpose, because people hate other people.
OK further research online shows this to be the front pumps check valve. Back out the garage. Whew, I'll screw that back in for good. That would absolutely suck trying to screw it in with the motor running.
Looks like someone eliminated the gearbox oil cooler fluid lines?????
I never paid any attention to plugs in the bell housing area. It might be some pressure or check valve??
The filler is on the right rear area.

Thanks Bob. That is exactly what it was. All was for naught, anyway. When I found the plug, a previous owner had already stripped it before I could get a chance to. buggers.
I guess this trans is on a suicide mission. Good thing I have AAA and I have my 4 free tows back after 2 miata and 2 turbobuick catastrophic failures just over a year ago used up my free towing allotment.
One failure (miata crank pulley) got us a free, 99 mile chauffeured tour on a flatbed back over the Million dollar highway from Montrose back to Durango on Hwy 550. My 16 years old kid was driving going north, so needless to say I didn't see much of scenery the first time.
I'm putting the Jag back on the road tomorrow and will drive it until it breaks, then start the LS1 swap I have been putting off.
