Default Rear 1/4 Windows Stay Up All the time

Hi All,
My 2000 XK8 convertible's 1/4 windows will not go down when opening the roof. I removed all 4 relays and metered pins 1 and 2, 6 and 7 on both the right and left side relays, and found they have just under 12vdc all the time, even when the car is totally off. I also have 12vdc on pin 5 and 10 all the time. I checked between pins 3 and 8 on both sides and had infinate(13 megs) resistance. I would think the motors should be a few hundred ohms at best. What am I missing?

Have you checked the wire colors so you can be sure you are checking the correct relays?

Did you remove all 4 relays before you measured anything, or did you remove one (or two) at the time and measured?

Yes, I did check color codes. I tried reading with 1, 2(both up or both down), and all 4. I'm getting ready to remove the back seat and check the wire harness there, then the side panels to look at the regulators.

Hi there,

Exact thing happened to me. It turned out to be bad fuses. Check all your fuses in your rear fuse box. I seem to remember it was a 5, 20, and 30 amp fuse I replaced. My rear quarter windows and parking sensors had stopped working (and I didn't realize it, but my reverse lights as well) so I was surprised when I heard them beeping again and saw my reverse lights worked too! Those fuses control a lot of stuff, so check them.

Visual check of fuses is good. I will meter them. Thanks!

Yes, if you are not seeing any motor winding resistance you must have broken connections somewhere.

Mystery solved. Left side was unplugged. Right side was removed. Not happy! Now to find a replacement.

Someone goobered up one of our XK8 convertibles about the same, regulator on one side was gone and the other side was messed up. Rear windows slid up & down freely. I attached one end of a cord to the bottom of each window and tied the other end just below the front of the window frame. I can shove them down or pull them up with the cords. My wife has no complaints. Actually more convenient and quicker than dealing with ignition and roof button.

If the hydraulics were to spring a leak, I'll settle for raising & lowering it manually, and I have a hydraulics business. We're used to it as most of our rag tops never had power anything.
